SEA Index® welcomes NANNI as a new Ally

The yachting industry continues its transition toward increasingly sustainable practices, and Nanni is proud to be part of this effort, particularly through two initiatives led by the Yacht Club de Monaco: the SEA Index and the 30th Captains’ Forum.

The SEA Index: a tool for measuring and improving environmental impact

Developed by the Yacht Club de Monaco in collaboration with Credit Suisse, the Superyacht Eco Association (SEA) Index is an association that has established an independent rating system for yachts over 24 meters in length. Its objective is clear: to assess the CO₂ emissions of vessels based on available technical data and to encourage owners to adopt more environmentally friendly solutions.

By providing a transparent and comparative benchmark, the SEA Index enables owners, captains, and shipyards to better understand their environmental impact and identify areas for improvement. It is fully aligned with the goal of making yachting more sustainable without compromising performance or comfort.

Through a membership program designed for professionals, the SEA Index fosters an entire ecosystem of stakeholders and partners committed to promoting technical innovation with the goal of delivering high-performance and increasingly sustainable sailing.

In this context, Nanni has now been granted “SEA Index Ally” status thanks to its marine propulsion solutions designed to improve environmental and energy performance.

“Welcoming NANNI as a SEA Index Ally further reinforces our collective capacity to drive meaningful and lasting transformation within the yachting industry. Innovation is no longer confined to engine manufacturers. It is now reaching equipment specialists, including generator makers such as Nanni, which is a clear sign that sustainability is permeating every layer of the maritime supply chain. This momentum echoes the pioneering spirit we see each year at the Monaco Energy Boat Challenge, where new technologies first take shape before spreading through the industry. Nanni’s engineering excellence and commitment to practical innovation are fully aligned with the SEA Index® mission and long-term roadmap.”
Bernard d’Alessandri, General Secretary, Yacht Club de Monaco

Nanni’s solutions aligned with the SEA Index vision

Through its Complete Marine Power Solutions package, including Hybrid and next generation propulsion solutions, generator set and Nanni BESS batteries, Nanni has developed technical innovations and projects aimed at reducing emissions, in-cabin noise, and overall environmental impact, such as :

  • Alternative fuels with the Dual Fuel system, which relies on the use of methanol and HVO (Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil), contributing to the reduction of CO₂ and NOx emissions.

  • Nanni Soundless cabin, designed to provide optimal acoustic comfort, with noise reduction of up to 10 decibels below market standards.

  • Battery packs equipped with intelligent energy management systems, optimizing power storage and distribution under all yachting conditions.

The innovations mentioned above have already been successfully deployed in the Life Mystic project, in collaboration with Sanlorenzo and MAN. This project aims to develop more environmentally friendly marine solutions in response to the IMO’s goals for reducing greenhouse gas emissions from the marine sector by 2050. It relies in particular on the use of methanol as an alternative fuel and on an innovative dual-fuel engine system (methanol + diesel), enabling a gradual transition to cleaner energy sources while maintaining high performance. As an example, the SEA Index has also CO₂ rated the Sanlorenzo Almax 50 Steel yacht, equipped with a methanol reformer, which earned a 3-star rating, demonstrating the viability of next-generation propulsion solutions.

By bringing together the technical expertise of Nanni and the environmental leadership of the SEA Index, these solutions showcase concrete, proven progress toward cleaner, more efficient yachting.

“Joining the SEA Index program represents an important milestone for NANNI. We believe that technological innovation must translate into measurable environmental progress, and the SEA Index provides the scientific and operational framework needed to make this transition real. Through this partnership, we aim to provide yacht owners, captains, and shipyards with effective and scalable solutions that elevate the standards of clean and responsible yachting.”
Gregorio Passani, Chief Business Officer and General Manager, NANNI.

Captains’ Forum: a key event in the yachting industry

A partnership highlighted during one of Monaco’s key marine industry events, the Captains’ Forum: a key platform for dialogue in the yachting industry.

Also organized by the Yacht Club de Monaco as part of “Monaco, Capital of Advanced Yachting,” the Captains’ Forum celebrated its 30th edition this year on March 24, 2026. The event brings together captains, experts, and industry leaders to discuss major issues such as: energy transition, technological innovation, safety, and regulatory changes.

On this occasion, Nanni participated in the high-level panel titled “From Certification to Action: Tools for More Resilient Yachting.” The discussion focused on the real-world impact of onboard systems, as well as concrete solutions and actions aligned with the objectives of the SEA Index. Giammario Meloni, Commercial and Sales Director for Defense in the Mediterranean at Nanni, presented the innovations and technologies developed to reduce the environmental footprint of onboard engines and equipment.

Toward more sustainable yachting

By joining forces with key players in the marine sector, such as the SEA Index, and through key networking events like the Captains’ Forum, Nanni is reaffirming its leading role in the environmental transition of the yachting industry.

This partnership is part of a vital effort to address current challenges and build a more responsible future for the industry.
