Soundless by Nanni, the art of silence on board

“It’s not just a generator. It’s a concrete response to a need for comfort on board. ”
Patrice Hugot, Applications Manager

On a yacht, silence is not an option: it is an essential condition for well-being. Long considered a necessary compromise, generators have often imposed their presence through noise, even on the most refined units. With the Soundless generator, Nanni offers a concrete alternative: producing energy without being present in life on board.

Technology born from listening

The Soundless project was born from very specific feedback: noisy generators at anchor, persistent humming in the cabins, vibrations even at moderate power… Nanni then embarked on a thorough investigation, combining acoustic engineering, mechanical integration, and naval ergonomics.

“The goal was not just to reduce the decibel level. Above all, the generator had to disappear from everyday life on board. ”
Marco Oltolina, Technical Service Manager

The development of the Soundless was supported by rigorous testing in real-life situations, notably on a Sanlorenzo SL72 yacht, renowned for its high standards of comfort. These tests were conducted under typical operating conditions: at anchor, with the air conditioning and kitchen in operation.

Measured, concrete performance

The Soundless test was carried out aboard the Sanlorenzo SL72 in the port of Lavagna, in the presence of the captain and several technical members of the shipyard, all gathered with Nanni’s team in the engine room, as close as possible to the generator in operation.

The objective was simple: to observe together, directly, the acoustic effects of the new system. No simulation, no theoretical measurements. A test under real conditions, with an active load, aboard a yacht at dock.

“It’s disturbing, actually. We know the generator is running, but we can barely hear it.” Captain of the Sanlorenzo

The acoustic report prepared by Marco, Technical Service Manager, is clear:

  • An average reduction of 10 dBA between the old generator and the new Soundless Nanni
  • Peaks of –11.8 dBA in the bathroom of the owner’s cabin;
  • Remarkable sound stability, even at full power, demonstrating that acoustic performance does not depend solely on the load but on the overall design of the generator.

At full power, even with the air conditioning and kitchen appliances turned on, the generator remains within a range close to ambient background noise. This stable performance is the result of precise work on the product’s architecture, without artifice or overcompensation, as shown in the above report, obtained by analyzing the frequencies emitted by the generator without the cabin.

The result of a successful design

This silence is the result of meticulous design work, notably with the redesigned sound insulation, with multi-layer absorbent materials.

The generator operates at full load without any deterioration in its sound profile. Even when air conditioning, hotplates, and auxiliary appliances are all running, the noise remains low, at levels close to background noise in sleeping areas.

Who is Soundless designed for?

Soundless is naturally intended for shipyards and owners of yachts and superyachts, where expectations in terms of comfort are high. It is also suitable for refits, for vessels where the aim is to improve quality of life without completely redesigning everything.

More simply, it is also aimed at those who consider silence not to be an option, but a necessity on board. And those who want technology to be forgotten, so they can better enjoy the art of silence on board.
