Nanni T4 EVO 3 : the new generation of 4-cylinder marine engines: quieter, lighter, and more powerful
Nanni unveils the T4 EVO 3, the third generation of its 4-cylinder marine engine based on the Toyota 2.8L block and designed to offer an unrivalled balance between power, quietness, and comfort.
This engine succeeds the T4 EVO 2, renowned for its robustness, and consolidates the range of compact diesel engines designed for both recreational boating and professional use.
The official presentation takes place today, on the first day of Metstrade 2025 in Amsterdam.
A redesigned engine for performance and comfort
The T4 EVO 3 retains the mechanical foundations that made the T4 so successful, while benefiting from a complete technical overhaul:
- Toyota 4-cylinder engine: 2.755 liters
- Common rail electronic fuel injection for precise and economical combustion
- Turbocharger with intercooler for linear performance
- Available power ratings: 150, 175, 230, and 260 horsepower
These developments enable smoother operation, reduced noise levels, and better responsiveness at low rpm.
“We worked on every aspect of comfort: vibration, noise, and responsiveness. The result is a quieter, better-balanced engine that is more enjoyable to drive.”
Giani UDOVICIC, R&D Manager at Nanni
The T4 EVO 3 is available in three propulsion configurations to suit a wide range of boats and sailing programs:
- Shaft Line, a classic and proven solution, ideal for semi-displacement hulls or professional use.
- Stern Drive, a “Z” drive offering excellent efficiency at high speed and optimal maneuverability, particularly for pleasure boats and water taxis.
- Sail Drive (150 hp), a major new feature: the T4 EVO 3 becomes the most powerful Sail Drive engine on the market in its category, with simplified installation, less vibration, and improved comfort under sail.
“The arrival of the 150 hp Sail Drive is a game changer for sailboats and catamarans. Shipyards will be able to offer more powerful engines without compromising on comfort or ease of installation.”
Patrice Hugot, Applications Manager at Nanni
Toyota reliability, Nanni expertise
Developed on the basis of the Toyota 2.8L engine block, the T4 EVO 3 benefits from an architecture renowned for its exceptional durability. Nanni has added its marine expertise:
- Fresh water cooling and optimized heat exchanger
- Reinforced corrosion protection
- Marine components manufactured to Nanni standards
- Quality control on a test bench for each engine produced
“This engine perfectly symbolizes our philosophy: combining the rigor of a global car manufacturer with Nanni’s marine experience. It is a guarantee of reliability for our customers, whether they are sailing in the Mediterranean or around the globe. In addition, the engines will meet the latest emission standards and will be ready for HVO biofuel.”
